News from GSICA
GSICA the Italian scientific group of food packaging, in cooperation with National Research Council, IMCB University of Naples, DSA and DIMP, within SLIM 2008, announces the 1st Workshop “New analytical and regulatory approaches for safe food packaging” (June 25, 2008 Hotel Continental Terme, Ischia (Naples)). The Workshop aims to present the latest developments in compliance testing of food packaging materials from the leading opinions of two key figures of the food packaging world: the Plastic Packaging Industry and the Control Authority. The manufacturer’s perspective on current regulatory issues, the future of compliance testing, the needs of packaging end users, the developments in analytical tools as well as in mathematical modelling will be highlighted for a safer and more effective food packaging. SLIM 2008
The Italian Scientific Group of Food Packaging (GSICA) in co-operation with: Institute of Composite and Biomedical Materials (IMCB) – National Research Council Department of Food Science (DSA), University of Naples Department of Materials and Production Engineering (DIMP), University of Naples announces the Third Shelf Life International Meeting (SLIM 2008) which will be held in Ischia (Naples, Italy). The aim of SLIM 2008 is to provide an international forum for presenting fundamental aspects of current developments and future directions for research and applications on the shelf life of packaged foodstuff.
Prediction, testing and extension of the Shelf Life require a multi-disciplinary approach, which involves analytical chemistry, microbiology, food processing, food packaging, material science as well as physical chemistry. The conference structure, the diversity of the attendees and the careful selection of the contributes from both industries and academic institutions are expected to contribute significantly to identify problems and to promote scientific discussions and further collaborative research cooperations. Extended abstract (500 words) must be submitted to www.packlab-jessica.it/slim2008. Contribute papers for oral and poster presentation will be chosen for presentation on the basis of scientific interest and homogeneity with conference topics.
Key dates:
abstract submission deadline: October 15th 2007;
abstract acceptance notification: January 30th 2008.
The Conference will be based on invited lectures (25+5 min), oral communications (15+5 min) and poster session. Invited speakers, coming from the most relevant international research groups, will highlight the most recent scientific developments in the selected three topics:
I session: Shelf Life Modelling and Prediction:
Plenary Lecture: Dr. Maria José Sousa Gallagher – Dept. of Processing & Chemical Engineering - University College Cork (Ireland)
II session: New Technologies for Shelf Life Extention:
Plenary Lecture: Dr. Yves Wyser – Nestlè Research Center, Losanna (Switzerland).
III session: Shelf Life Testing:
Plenary Lecture: Prof. Cristina Nerin – Dept of Analytical Chemistry - University of Zaragoza. Aragon Institute for Engineering Research (I3A) (Spain)
