The world of graphic, paper, converting and packaging machines. On the international manufacturing scene, the manufacturers of graphic, paper and converting machines belong to a trade which is considered with reason among the most important of the economy worldwide. This may be chiefly ascribed to that educational aspect which is implicit in contemporary mass communications: by means of these machines, thought is transformed into the written word, images are duplicated to infinity, while paper and its derivatives are put to the widest possible range of uses. This is the culture of information spread through dailies and periodicals, books and comics, printouts and business forms, packing and packaging of all types, running into thousands of tons of informative, educational, advertising and storing material.
But that is not all: this is the world which more than any other mirrors in real time the technological progress achieved through the development of electronic data processing, from desktop publishing to computerised production control, from the telecommunication of information to the birth of multimedia communication. The spokesman for this force is Acimga, an association born in 1947, whose members account for 65% of Italy's total turnover and 70% of its exports in this field. The ACIMGA Association, represents the major Italian Manufacturers of Machinery for the Graphics, Paper and Cardboard Processing, and Converting Industry. This sector of Italian industry, whose production reaches 10% of the European total, accounts for 7% of business world wide.
The growing importance assumed by the packaging industry, which together with the graphic arts is the principal consumer for the graphics, paper and converting machinery industry, brought about strong synergy with UCIMA - the Italian Association of Automatic Packing and Packaging Machinery Manufacturers - with whom ACIMGA undertakes a series of joint initiatives. ACIMGA operates in Italy and abroad, providing member companies with a range of services in the areas of marketing and promotion, economic matters, technical consultancy and standards, publishing and communications. In addition, ACIMGA handles the organisational aspects of Italian participation at foreign trade fairs with the PUNTO ITALIA trademark.
Aware the importance of trade fairs as a tool for promoting the Italian industry, ACIMGA through CENTREXPO Spa (a company expression of ACIMGA), independently organises trade fairs for the sector in Italy (GRAFITALIA/CONVERFLEX EUROPE, GEC, MEDPRINT); it also takes care of the organisation of trade fairs abroad in partnership with the major international organisers. ACIMGA is a member of CONFINDUSTRIA (the Confederation of Italian Industries) and INTERMECCANICA (the Federation of mechanical industries) and of the ISTITUTO ITALIANO IMBALLAGGIO (the Italian Packaging Institute). It is also a member of EUMAPRINT, the Confederation which unites the Associations of manufacturers of machinery for the graphics industry world wide.
